  2. As a resident in the Victoria Texas Program, I am honored to have a person dedicated to my care and wellbeing. I may have not met Mr. Kreider in person, I feel it appropriate to mention his presence. I knew Mr. Ron Burd the former President & CEO of Devereux’s Network and I even sung for him on numerous occassions. Mr. Burd has always been someone in spirit and mind. Thanks Mr. Kreider for you efforts on maintaining a life for all those in need of Devereux’s special services, as it has helped me to develop a sense of hope.

    Dear Bob,
I am a 1970 alumnus of Devereux Manor in town this weekend for our 37th high school reunion. Had a few moments to thoroughly peruse your site in an effort to catch up on the foundation. Needless to say, much has changed.

I wanted to say how much your predecessor, Mr. Leonard Green, will be missed. Lenny passed away two weeks ago but was totally prepared to join us as our honored guest during the reunion. All of us are sorry we’re not going to be able to show him how much he influenced our lives while we were students in ways we could never have imagined at the time.

The Manor has changed its scope of operations since that time. I know a few of my fellow classmates won’t be attending because that period of their lives was very hard on them and they refuse to relive those memories which are too painful. Those who are attending, like me, remember Devereux to be some of the happiest times of our lives. No cares, no responsibilities, no worries (except, of course, trying to figure out how to cut Wes Moore’s geography class). In all, my memories of those years are of a positive, worthwhile period of growth that couldn’t be replaced for anything. Naturally, I’d never have admitted to that at the time, but with the advent of the internet, I’ve been able to reestablish acquaintances with my peers who I never thought I’d see again.

All of us are eagerly looking forward to this weekend and the memories that will be shared. I only pray the foundation, as it is today, is able to help its current clientele half as much as it helped me almost four decades ago.

With my deepest gratitude, I send hearty congratulations to those who, like me, have led successful lives, thanks to the caring of those like you who helped to make us who we are today.
    Sincerely,
    Karen (Tex Gilbert) Spence
